Beyond the Classroom

At Hampton Prep our co-curricular offering provides valuable opportunities for all our pupils to discover new interests and activities from sport to music, drama and so much more.

PE and Sports

Our PE and Sports curriculum promotes pupils’ physical, mental and emotional development.

We believe in providing sporting opportunities for all and aim to nurture participation and enjoyment of sport and physical education in every pupil at the School.

Sport at Prep

We endorse and instil values such as respect, good manners, modesty and teamwork. We have a strong record of Year 6 pupils being awarded sports scholarships and the department is staffed by passionate and knowledgeable teachers and coaches.

Home and away fixtures are a big part of School life and we regularly play schools such as Newland House, Surbiton Prep and Bishopsgate. House sport also plays an important role and pupils compete in annual competitions in football, rugby, cricket, cross country, tug-of-war, swimming and athletics.

Music

The Prep is full of music: from the broad range of peripatetic music lessons in our dedicated music rooms to our orchestra that offers the opportunity for pupils to experience the benefit and delight of playing their instruments in an ensemble setting.

Drum Circle and Ukulele Club are popular co-curricular activities that also offer opportunities to enjoy sharing music with others as well as to perform.

Choir meets once a week to practise vocal techniques and to learn new repertoires. There are many performance opportunities including carol services, concerts and assemblies, as well as singing in the local community.

The annual Prep Proms takes place in the summer term and is a joyful celebration of the musical life of the School.

Drama

Drama and performance are an important part of school life, giving every child the opportunity to develop confidence, creativity and communication skills.

Through our programme of productions which run throughout the year, pupils of all ages can explore acting, stagecraft and theatre techniques while working collaboratively with their peers.

Highlights include Year 5’s Shakespeare evening, the annual Prep Carol Service, Year 3 and 4’s spring production, and the Year 5 and 6 summer performance.

Boys also have the option to study LAMDA, developing confidence, creativity and communication skills. Taught by a specialist teacher, boys can choose from Acting, Musical Theatre, Public Speaking, or Verse and Prose, while working towards the recognised LAMDA qualifications.

Through our wide and varied programme of performances, we hope to offer all of the children within the School the chance to grow in confidence and self-belief and allow them the opportunity to shine in their own individual way.

Clubs at Prep

There really is a club for everyone at Hampton Prep. Our ever-evolving clubs programme offers pupils the chance to explore new interests, develop existing talents and have fun with friends beyond the classroom. With activities ranging from chess, art, cookery and  choir to science, computing, karate, languages and much more, there are countless opportunities for children to discover what inspires them.
