We were treated this week to an excellent assembly in the Prep from Mr Barber on the theme of Harvest Festivals both here in Britain and their equivalents internationally. He began by helping us think about what harvest might mean to us today, living as we do in a more urban environment. Of course, the images many of us call to mind come from rural Britain such as fields being gathered in, baskets of produce and village traditions but Mr Barber widened our lens. He showed us how harvest festivals are marked across the world, from Sri Lanka and China to the United States.
Different customs, music and food perhaps, but all united by one clear theme: gratitude.
That message was brought cheerfully to life by Miss Bee, who had us all singing lines from the song ‘Share what you have with people you love’. It was a joyful moment, and a reminder that the values underpinning Harvest are not bound to a season or a particular set of customs. Rather, gratitude can be kept alive all year round whenever we remember to share, give thanks, and look after one another.

News from Mr Salt - Head of Games
It has been a week of superb football and plenty to celebrate across the Prep. The U9A team have enjoyed a remarkable start to their Claremont Surrey Cup campaign, progressing through the first two rounds in less than a week. Their opening fixture at Kempton Park CC against Twickenham Prep last week was a tense affair, but cool heads prevailed as the boys edged a 2–1 victory to book their place in the quarter-finals.

A word from Mrs Murphy
What a start to the week! There’s nothing quite like kicking off the school week with a special visitor, and this week, we were absolutely delighted to welcome Lucy Moreland, a talented local author, to our school. It was a joy to see their creativity come alive.

We began our week with a special visit from author Lucy Gray Moreland, who read her delightful new book, The Little Boy Who Took My Spoon. This fun and thoughtful story helped us explore the importance of asking before taking and sharing with others. The children followed the journey of a little boy who felt upset when someone took his spoon. He reflected on what he could have done differently and how he might respond next time. The story sparked meaningful conversations about how it feels when others don’t share with us — and how we can use kind words like, “Can I have a turn after you?” to express ourselves.

It’s been another busy and exciting week in Reception! We began with a special visit from our School Nurse, Liz, who taught us all about the importance of brushing our teeth carefully and eating a healthy diet. She brought along some giant teeth, as well as both an electric and a manual toothbrush, to demonstrate the correct brushing technique — the children were fascinated!

This week in English, we’ve been diving into the exciting world of amazing adjectives! The children have discovered that adjectives are powerful describing words that bring our writing to life by adding detail and flair. While enjoying our class reader, The First Case, everyone has been captivated by the mystery of who stole Squirrel’s nuts! Using our newfound adjective skills, each child created a vibrant woodland WANTED poster to help track down the mischievous thief.

It has been another action-packed week in Year 2! The highlight of the week was leading the Friday class assembly all about Skills for Life and Skills for Learning, with our focus being the school’s core value of “Perseverance”. The children impressed everyone with their wonderful retelling of The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires. The story follows a young girl who sets out to build something truly magnificent with the help of her trusty dog assistant. Although she has a clear idea in her mind, things don’t go as planned.
