As I was able to explain to Prep parents in person on Monday evening, we were very excited to launch our new Real-World Learning Skills in this week’s Prep assembly. Mr Ford and the Year 6 Curriculum Ambassadors guided boys in Years 3 – 6 through our new initiative designed to augment our already strongly knowledge-rich curriculum.

While our lessons remain rigorous, engaging and fast-paced, we recognise that preparing pupils for life beyond the classroom is just as important as what they learn within it. The dispositions and habits they develop here are not only essential for thriving in lessons today, but also form the foundations for lifelong learning and success. The values that Mrs Howard is leading on developing this year, as per the Bulletin last week, are of course neatly knitted into this overall approach.

Following careful thought, professional collaboration and guidance from experts in this field, we have created a framework of skills that sits alongside our curriculum and works in joyful concert with it!

These interconnected skills will be taught intentionally, helping pupils understand how and when to use them, with the aim of deepening subject knowledge even further. In turn, we hope the boys in the Prep will develop their independence and self-awareness with regards to their learning.

To find out more about how this will look in the classroom, please do visit this page on your son’s SharePoint (please note your son’s login details must be used) and ask him to talk to you about it all. We would be very happy to hear your feedback!

A Word From Mrs Murphy

A Wonderful Start to the Term It’s been a fantastic first full week back at Hampton Pre-Prep, and I continue to be incredibly impressed by how quickly the children have settled into their new routines and surroundings. A special mention must go to our youngest pupils in Kindergarten – they have been absolute superstars in adapting to school life with such confidence and enthusiasm. A heartfelt thank you also to our Kindergarten parents for the warm welcome during our recent home visits – it was a pleasure to meet you all.

Kindergarten

What a fantastic start to the new school year, it is so lovely to see the children settle so well into Kindergarten this week. They have enjoyed playing with many different resources both inside the classroom and outside in our playground. Dinosaurs, sand, cars and the role play area have been firm favourites! They have listened well to various stories but an absolute favourite by far this week was, No! by Tracey Corderoy.

Reception

We have had a very busy week in Reception, completing our first full week of school! Our work focused on the topic ‘Making our Mark’. We enjoyed recognising and creating our names using pasta, resulting in a bright display in our classroom. The children listened to the story Gregory and the Magic Line’ by Dawn Piggot, which inspired them to take part in a large collaborative piece of class artwork in the hall. Together, we went on a ‘mark-making journey’ – taking our pens across the paper to explore different lines, letters and shapes. We saw some fantastic patterns emerging, as well as some wonderful creative ideas including animals, sea life and space. We all agreed it felt great to work together towards a shared goal.
