Welcome to the pre-prep & prep blog!

Welcome to our final blog of the academic year. It’s been a wonderful final week, filled with celebration, achievement and memorable moments. I hope you enjoy looking back at the highlights, and I wish all of our families a happy, restful and well-deserved summer break.

SUMMER CONCERT & PRIZE GIVING

The end of the academic year was celebrated in spectacular style as pupils, families and staff gathered for our annual Pre-Prep Summer Concert and Prize Giving. This year’s “Under the Sea” theme transformed the hall into a seaside adventure, with waves of music and joyful performances transporting the audience from sandy beaches to the deep blue ocean.

Kindergarten got everyone smiling with spirited renditions of I’m a Pirate and Slippery Fish, shaking tambourines and other percussion instruments as they sang. Reception then took to the stage with Down There Under the Sea and Heave Ho, looking every bit the part in their sailor-style bandanas.

Year 1 brought the sunshine with energetic performances of Whale Song and Walking on the Beach. Wearing star-shaped sunglasses and waving flowing blue ribbons, they perfectly captured the fun of a day by the seaside.

The Pre-Prep Choir performed the uplifting Sail Away, before Year 2 rounded off the class performances with Ere the Waters of the Deep and Life on the Sea. Accompanied by the gentle sound of handbells, their confident performance provided a wonderful finale.

The audience was also treated to a series of impressive piano performances from Taksh, Vrushank, Francis, Clara and Kabir, who all performed with confidence and musical flair.

To close the concert, every pupil came together for a moving performance of Dreams Across the Ocean, filling the hall with song and bringing a memorable morning of music to a heartwarming conclusion.

Following the concert, pupils were recognised for their hard work, kindness and achievements during the annual Prize Giving ceremony.

Congratulations to our Class Prize winners:

OUR GIRLS DESTINATIONS

As the academic year comes to a close, we are celebrating our wonderful Year 2 girls as they prepare to leave Hampton Pre-Prep and begin exciting new adventures.

We are delighted that all three girls received offers from Lady Eleanor Holles. Two will be joining LEH in September, while the third will be moving on to Guildford High School.

We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved during their time at Hampton Pre-Prep and wish them every success and happiness as they begin this exciting new chapter. Good luck, girls!

Sports Day

A rainbow of green, red, blue and yellow filled the Hampton School playing fields as pupils, parents and staff came together to enjoy a fantastic Sports Day in the sunshine.

There had been a real sense of excitement building throughout the school, and the boys channelled that energy superbly on to the track. The 300m races produced some impressive performances, with Luca (Year 5) particularly catching the eye with an outstanding time. The 75m sprints were equally competitive, with a number of incredibly close finishes. Jude (Year 4) delivered one of the fastest performances of the day in a thrilling race.

Not to be left out, parents embraced the occasion with their usual enthusiasm in the parents’ races. Thankfully, there were no injuries to report, although there may well have been a few aching legs the following morning! The staff race was equally competitive, with Mr Martin striding to victory in impressive fashion.

Balance and agility then took centre stage in the traditional egg and spoon races before attention turned to the House competitions. With points still up for grabs, the boys joined forces for the tug of war and cricket ball throw. The tug of war provided a fantastic spectacle, with teams of 18 boys pulling together as they battled for House pride. Meanwhile, the cricket ball throw saw some remarkable distances achieved, while spectators expertly avoided a handful of wayward efforts!

The afternoon concluded with the ever-exciting cone collection relay. Tudor emerged victorious in this final event, but it was not enough to deny Lancaster, whose consistently strong performances throughout the day saw them claim the Sports Day Shield in convincing fashion.

Congratulations to Lancaster and well done to every pupil who contributed to a wonderful celebration of sport, teamwork and House spirit.

PREP PRIZEGIVING

The end of another memorable academic year was celebrated in style as pupils, families and staff gathered in the Hammond Theatre at Hampton School for our annual Prep Prizegiving. The afternoon began with a brilliant welcome from the Head Boy and Deputy Head Boy, whose speeches had the audience laughing from the very start with their perfect mix of humour and confidence.

One of the most special moments of the ceremony saw every Year 6 pupil receive their Leavers’ Tie – a symbol of their time at Hampton Prep and the exciting adventures that lie ahead. In a lovely display of pride, the boys immediately swapped their school ties for their new Leavers’ Ties, wearing them for the rest of the ceremony.

There was plenty of laughter as the four House Captains looked back on the year’s highlights, sharing memorable moments from Lancaster, Tudor, Windsor and York. The excitement continued as the House Cup winners were revealed, with Tudor House taking the title thanks to their consistent performances throughout the year, including a standout victory in House Football.

Pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 were recognised for their dedication to the L.I.O.N. Award programme, receiving their Bronze, Silver and Gold badges respectively, while Pride Value Awards celebrated pupils from Years 3 to 6 who have embodied the school’s values throughout the year.

The performing arts were also celebrated, with pupils receiving awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to this year’s productions, including The Jungle Book, The Shakespeare Play and Dracula Rocks!. The audience also enjoyed a beautiful piano performance of Someone You Loved, providing a memorable musical interlude during the ceremony.

The celebrations continued with the presentation of the Year 6 academic and sports awards, recognising pupils for their hard work, commitment and achievements both in and beyond the classroom.

A particularly touching moment came as the Year 6 Form Tutors reflected on their pupils’ journey through Hampton Prep with a heartfelt poem, celebrating the friendships, memories and milestones they have shared together.

The ceremony concluded with a speech from the Chair of Governors of the Hampton Trust and Headmaster Mr Smith, who reflected on another successful year for the School before presenting the Head Boy with a special prize.

Congratulations to all our award winners, and we wish our Year 6 pupils every success as they begin their next exciting chapter.

YEAR 6 VS TEACHER ROUNDERS

There was plenty of excitement and friendly competition as our Year 6 pupils took on teachers in the annual end-of-term rounders match.

After a closely contested first half, the scores were level at 14 rounders each, setting up a thrilling finish. Both teams produced some impressive all-round performances, with excellent batting, bowling and fielding on display throughout the match. In the end, the teachers just edged the victory, finishing two rounders ahead of Year 6.

The match was played in fantastic spirit, with lots of laughter, encouragement and memorable moments. A brilliant way to celebrate the end of the sporting year – well done to everyone who took part!

GOODBYE MR SMITH

Hampton Pre-Prep and Prep bid farewell to our Headmaster, Mr Smith, who has led the school with dedication and distinction since 2015.

To mark his final day, Mr Smith planted a tree in the school grounds. With its striking purple, heart-shaped leaves, it will serve as a lasting reminder of his time at Hampton and the impact he has had on generations of pupils.

Over the past decade, Mr Smith has overseen many significant milestones, including the opening of the Prep building and the school’s centenary celebrations, as well as accompanying pupils on unforgettable trips far and wide.

Mr Smith’s leadership, commitment and sense of humour have left a lasting impression on pupils, past and present. We thank him for everything he has given to the Hampton community and wish him every success in his next adventure.
