Welcome to the First Year Blog!
Another wonderful week for our First Years, who are really finding their rhythm here at Hampton!
Clubs have been a big highlight, with pupils getting properly stuck into things such as Geog, Dog, and Blog club (they don’t always rhyme!) It’s brilliant to see so much enthusiasm for trying new things and finding where their interests lie.
This week also saw the start of PSHE lessons, with a focus on digital skills – an important foundation as Hamptonians navigate the modern world both in and out of the classroom. There was a special assembly too, exploring what it truly means to be a Hamptonian. Each pupil received their own charge card, carrying a quote to keep close throughout their time here:
Aiming for personal best while supporting those around you with kindness and respect.
It’s a message we hope will stay with them well beyond this first year – and one First Years are already living up to.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for next week’s Avon Tyrrell residentials. It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for the First Years to bond outside the classroom, try new challenges, and build on the confidence they’ve already shown in these opening weeks. We can’t wait to hear all about it!
Football Fun
I was just finishing up writing down the last few words before the bell rang, the sign that most of my class had been waiting for. They bolted up and started packing at the speed of light. Before I had even got up, they were out of the class, but they stopped for a second to say thank you to our teacher. After we caught up with class we headed to the sports pavilion to drop off our bags before heading onto the field. The day was a fine one with a gentle breeze rustling through my hair and the sun beaming down on us. We were split into groups by which team you are in. In the matches, we were having lots of fun kicking the ball around. Everything is okay if you have a friend to do all of it with which I did. The time flew by and we ended the game 7-5 to the other team. The teams were decided by our sports coaches and I told my friends that we could work together in our teams. With that they cheered and we started to go side by side back to the pavilion.

Clubs Galore
Feeling already right at home, the second week at Hampton was filled with activities that even excitement could not help breaking through. At the beginning of the week, I experienced my first club – which I particularly enjoyed – that was rock climbing, where from each angle you approach Hampton School’s extraordinary climbing wall a challenge loomed ahead, along with motivation to reach the top. Experiencing, not only Hampton’s fabulous clubs, but unforgettable lessons too was even more of a joy. From chemistry, where deafening explosions left not only me, but everyone amazed in the first session, to the First Year sports where I started rugby, making me enjoy every single moment, tackle and win or loss.

In my first week at Hampton School, I found lots of clubs I was interested in. My favourite one I went to was Backgammon Club. In this club you can learn how to play Backgammon for fun, or you can play competitively. In the game, you need to get all your counters to your home quarter quicker than your opponent. This club takes place on Friday at 1.00pm in G46. If you like this club, you could try Board Games Club as well which runs on Tuesday the whole of lunch in Library as well. There also lots of other clubs than these which you can try.

Avon Tyrrell Awaits!
Once again, I walked up to the magnificently large Hampton School Coach imffront of me. It was the same as the week before. But my feelings were different. I wasn’t nervous as I knew I had made friends around me. This time, I felt excited for my second week as a Hamptonian.
Once I made it to school, I knew that this week would be fine. I knew pretty much how to get to every classroom, that if I knew where I was. As I approached the glorious artifact of Hampton School, I felt reassured by myself. I comfortably made it to my classroom, along with trying to find shortcuts and much quicker ways than I was going.
But what is always going around my head. Avon Tyrrell. I have heard it is an exciting trip where there are many adventures to overcome. I know it will a fun experience and help me get to know more people in my year.

TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Every week, the First Year Tutor team nominate a Hamptonian who they have been particularly impressed with and Mr Hill and Mr Fuldner present him with a certificate and a tasty treat to eat!
Congratulations to Oshin D (1H) on being named this week’s Tutee of the Week!
Oshin has embraced the Hampton values of kindness and respect so well in his first few days – well done Oshin!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS!
William S (1L) played a Badminton England tournament in Guildford and won a silver medal in U13 boys open single games. Great job William!
On Sunday, Austin L W (1J) ran at his first Ebbisham U12 600m event for his run club Hercules Wimbledon. He came 3rd with a time of 1:51. A PB for Austin! Off the back of Wednesday at the Stan Allen 800m he got another PB 2:41. Fantastic results, Austin!

THE HAMPTON HUNT
Each week I will set you a challenge where you need to find out a random fact, number or indeed anything else around the School – you won’t be able to do this from home! You have until the end of Wednesday to complete the challenge; you will find out in next week’s blog if you’re correct, and you will be given a LION merit by your Form Tutor the following Monday. And who knows – you might get to know the School better in the process!
