Members of the public, local school pupils and Hampton boys and staff attended the School’s General Election Hustings for candidates of the Twickenham Constituency.

In what was a lively debate, chaired with dexterity and good-humour by Sixth Form Politics student Charlie Key, questions covered a wide range of topics including Brexit and the impact on young people wishing to study abroad, the environment, Independent School funding, and the issue of trust in current-day politics.

Three of the four candidates vying for the Twickenham seat took part in the hustings: Munira Wilson (Liberal Democrat), Ranjeev Walia (Labour) and Isobel Grant (Conservative).  Brexit party candidate, Stuart Wells, did not attend today’s event. Over 500 attended the hustings with a further 200 Hampton Fifth Years watching a live stream in The Hammond Theatre.

The local politicians concluded the hustings with a personal appeal addressing how they would represent the local constituency. All agreed that, unlike nationally, the local General Election campaign, has been run with mutual respect and cordiality.
