Leading figures from the creative world are attending the Hampton School 2018 Creative Futures afternoon, which aims to highlight to pupils the diverse and fascinating range of career options available in the creative industries.

Attendees include: former political editor of The Sun, George Pascoe-Watson, multi award-winning filmmaker Robin Barnwell, national stage and screen actor Sam Marks, and video games designer Momotaro Ushido plus many more.

A range of bespoke workshops will give boys a unique opportunity to hear from some of the top people in the creative sphere as well as being able to ask them questions and pick up invaluable career advice.

Robin Barnwell

A BAFTA, Royal Television Society (RTS) programme award nominee. Robin’s films have won Amnesty, Bayeux War Reporting, Monte Carlo Nymph and AIB documentary awards. Robin has made over 50 documentaries for BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and PBS in more than 40 countries around the world, in some of the most challenging and hostile locations on the planet. A highly-experienced journalist with a nose for a good story, an eye for powerful imagery and a natural talent for making a range of television, including observational documentaries, specialist factual programmes and groundbreaking investigations.

Marston Bloom: Writing TV Drama

Marston Bloom is a TV writer best known for Rellik, Harley Street, Marcella and New Tricks. After studying at Oxford his acting career opened at the RSC and ended up alongside Ian McKellen at the National Theatre. In between times he was a regular on TV, most notably in the ITV series The Knock alongside Alex Kingston and David Morissey. His first script was Harley Street for ITV and since then he has written numerous successful TV series including Hustle, Hotel Babylon, Vera and New Tricks. Marston is currently overseeing a new Netflix series.

Grant Feller

Grant is a journalist who has worked in the media for almost 30 years. He started writing for his student newspaper at Lancaster University then worked on local London papers before joining the Daily Mail where he was both a writer and executive. He has also worked for the Daily Telegraph, The Times and Evening Standard, and launched various websites. He is now a consultant working for businesses and their leaders, helping them to tell their stories to a wider audience, and continues to write for the media in both print and online.

Cameron Harvey-Piper

Cameron left Hampton in 2011 and is now a freelance editor and writer. He studied English at the University of Exeter and stayed on to complete a Master’s degree in Literary Studies. On leaving university he started working for The Sunday Times Sport desk as a digital sub-editor, and has since expanded his portfolio to include jobs with a number of different clients on a part-time and freelance basis. Cameron’s primary role is as a copy-editor, but he also takes on jobs that involve proofreading, article writing, interviewing and design and layout work for various magazines and publications.

James Helm: Journalism and the Media Industry

James is currently a partner at Portland Communications and comms chief for the Met. After studying Social & Political Science at Cambridge, he began his career as a reporter on the Newcastle Evening Chronicle before joining the BBC News trainee scheme. He spent the next 12 years at the BBC as a TV and radio correspondent, presenter and producer, working on BBC World TV, Radio 4 and World Service Radio before joining the Department for International Development as Director of Comms. At the DfID he led an award-winning team that campaigned on global issues, as well as responding to humanitarian emergencies. At the department, James oversaw strategic comms and campaigns, media relations and press handling, as well as internal comms, crisis comms and the DfID’s reputation.

Sam Marks (OH 2008): Professional Acting

Sam’s love of the theatre began at Hampton School and the National Youth Theatre. Today, Sam is a renowned British actor of stage and screen. Performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company, his roles have included Aumerle in Richard II and Happy in Death of a Salesman. Sam has also appeared in Nell Gwynn and The Secret Theatre at Shakespeare’s Globe and in Doctor Who and Foyle’s War on television.

Huse Monferadi

Huse began his career as an intern at MTV UK in the late 90s before entering the world of commercials and promos creating iconic music videos for artists such as Snow Patrol, Arctic Monkeys, the infamous Eric Prydz Call On Me and spots for Cadburys, 3 Mobile and Samsung, the later winning him the British Television Advertising Craft Award for Best New Director in 2005.

Huse joined Moxie Pictures in 2014 and directed a series of online films for Mastercard, with celebrity talent including Pharrell Williams, as well as a global campaign for YouTube, featuring a host of musicians. His work in music video continued with stunning live music pieces for Paolo Nutini’s Iron Sky at Abbey Road and Michael Kiwanuka’s Love & Hate.

His latest short film about the seminal artist Chris Wilson was picked up by Dazed and Confused, and featured on Nowness. He is currently developing the subject into a feature film based on the artist’s life.

Huse is now a freelance director and has been shooting back to back content for Apple Music with a host of artists, from Sam Smith, Cardi B, to Ed Sheeran and Metallica. In December of 2017, Huse’s video for Arctic Monkeys’ Brianstorm was entered into the BFI’s film archive as one of the most significant British music videos of all time.

George Pascoe-Watson: The Power of Tabloid Journalism

Working for Portland Communications, George currently advises the leaders of some of Britains’s biggest firms, charities and organisations on their corporate communications and government relations strategies. His work spans a huge range of corporate sectors including FMCG, defence, banking, financial technology, retail, health and pharmaceuticals. George enjoyed a 22-year career on The Sun newspaper where he was Political Editor for 5 years, widely regarded as one of the most influential positions in the UK media. He has been a regular panelist on BBC Question Time, Sunday AM, Sky News, Any Questions and BBC Radio 5 Live. George now advises clients on all aspects of media handling, crisis management and campaigning providing formidable insight into the political world.

Sue Thearle

Sue Thearle is a well known TV and Radio broadcaster who has worked for the BBC, ITV, Sky, Channel 5 and BT Sport.

She was the BBC Breakfast Sports Presenter for 13 years as well as spending 5 years as a News Presenter on the BBC News Channel. She is currently one of the main Football Reporters for ITV and Channel 5, as well as commentating on tennis for the WTA and ATP and golf for IMG.

As well as being the first female reporter on Match of the Day, Sue has presented shows for BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio London and Capital Gold. She has interviewed some of the world’s greatest sportsmen and women including Serena Williams, David Beckham, Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Kelly Holmes, Andy Murray, Billie-Jean King, Jordan Spieth, Maria Sharapova, Henrik Stenson and Thierry Henry. Her work for Premier League TV means she regularly interviews Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Slaven Bilic.

Sue is also a distinguished print journalist who has written for the Daily Telegraph and The Observer. She has also been the recipient of an award of distinction from the British Sports Journalism Awards.

Momotaro Ushido

After completing a BA in Game Art Design, Momotaro now works as a concept artist in a leading AAA videogame studio. During his time at university, he was part of an indie project called Timesplitters Rewind, and was also one of the winners in a competition held by the British Library. The triple A videogame classification represents those games associated with the highest development budgets and levels of promotion, synonymous with the ‘blockbuster’ term in the film industry.

LAWRENCE WEBER

Lawrence has 19 years+ experience in digital, integrated and creative agencies joining Karmarama in 2012. Lawrence has worked on global projects for BBC Worldwide, British Airways, Nokia, Range Rover, Marks & Spencers and Unilever.

As Managing Partner Innovation, he helps clients get commercial and creative advantage from key platforms, new technologies and the start-up community. He regularly writes and talks for the likes of Campaign, The Drum, Cannes Lions, SXSW and WARC.
