Have a go – Rowing
Hampton School has a long and proud tradition of rowing and it is one of the major sports we offer. If your son has not had any experience of rowing we would be delighted to welcome him to the Millennium Boat House to attend our ‘have a go row’ session on Tuesday 4 September. The session will take place from 2.00pm - 4.30pm and will provide your son with the opportunity to see the Boat Club, use the rowing machines and row on the Thames. School sports kit should be worn (avoid long, loose T-shirts). Please note that boys who are not able to attend this session may still choose rowing as their sports option. Similarly, if your son is a rugby or football player and would like to row, he will be able to take up rowing as a summer sports option.
Boys wishing to try rowing before the start of term may also like to attend one of the taster sessions at the Millennium Boathouse during the summer holidays. The taster sessions will be held on:
• Wednesday 29 August – 12.30 – 2.30pm
• Thursday 30 August – 12.30 – 2.30pm
• Friday 31 August – 12.30 – 2.30pm
Please indicate on the form below if your son would like to attend one or more of the above sessions. To ensure that all boys interested have the opportunity to attend at least one day please rank the days 1 – 3 in order of preference, with 1 being your son’s preferred day. We will try and accommodate your son’s preferences subject to demand.
To be allowed on to the river, your son must be a competent swimmer. Swimming tests will be held in the first week of term and boys who are not confident swimmers will be required to wear an inflatable life jacket until they reach the required level of ability.
