Shell Eco-Marathon

The Shell Eco-Marathon is a highly prestigious international competition, usually reserved for universities. Headed up by Mr Michael Richards, Hampton has put together a team from across the year groups, and is constructing a single-seater electric vehicle for the “urban concept” category. This involves essentially designing and building a prototype road vehicle for city use from scratch.

Particularly impressive achievements to date have been: the design, modelling, and refinement of the aerodynamics of the car body, using 3D CAD software and flow simulation carried out by a Sixth Form pupil; also, the design of the chassis, inspired by the lighting rig in the theatre, which was put together by a Hamptonian who went on to secure a degree apprenticeship at Jaguar Land Rover.
