A Message from Mr Knibbs

Dear Parent

It was very enjoyable indeed to have the opportunity to catch up with so many of you at the recent Leavers’ Reception. Thank you to everyone in attendance for being part of such a joyful celebration of all that our 2022 Leavers have contributed to Hampton life.

We hope that our departing Upper Sixth have thoroughly enjoyed their time at our School and we look forward to welcoming them to our alumni community. Hamptonians rightly regard their bond with the School as a special lifelong one; the maxim, once a Hamptonian, always a Hamptonian, is particularly important and cherished here.

Please remind your son that the Alumni Office will always be available to help and support him, for example by putting him in contact with other Hamptonians for career advice and networking opportunities. Equally, we hope that he may in due course choose to help future Hamptonians by sharing his professional and life experiences with them. Our Alumni Office also organises a range of social events, including year group reunions, university dinners, and sports events – we shall look forward to welcoming your son and his peers to these occasions.

You will be aware that our School has a longstanding tradition of providing free places to boys whose families could not otherwise afford a Hampton education. Historically speaking, everything from which Hamptonians benefit today began when a local brewer, Robert Hammond, endowed a school for poor boys over 450 years ago. In the same tradition, the Fitzwygram Foundation was established in 2016 as a separate-but-linked charity with the sole aim of increasing the number of completely free places offered at Hampton. Funds given to the Fitzwygram Foundation are ring-fenced and can only be used for the purpose of providing access to Hampton to families in genuine need.

The Foundation and the School work in harmony and we currently have 87 Hamptonians attending on free places. This represents 6.4% of the School roll and is a substantial achievement, but we want to do more and our aim is to be the country’s leading independent school in this regard.

With the above in mind, if every family from the 2022 Leavers’ year group donated their deposit to the Fitzwygram Foundation, the amount raised would fund an additional two boys through Hampton on free places. Any donations will of course be hugely appreciated and make a difference. If you would like to support the provision of more free places at Hampton in this way, please complete and return the form linked here. Completing the form will also help to ensure that we have the correct details to return your deposit or acknowledge your kind donation.

I wish our splendid Class of 2022 every success and happiness. They have been a real force for good within our School community and I am sure this will be the case wherever they are in future.

With kind regards and best wishes

Yours sincerely
