Third Year Blog

Third Year boys have joined students across the School community today in showing support for World Cancer Day by wearing unity wristbands purchased from Antony Nolan – one of three Form Charity partners for 2017/18. World Cancer Day takes place this Sunday 4 February. Anthony Nolan is a charity that cures blood cancer by matching stem cell donors for those in need of a transplant.

Art and History:

Third Year Art pupils have created a sculpture to mark the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport. The sculpture was put on display in a special assembly during which Hamptonians heard the personal story of Bea Green, who escaped from Nazi Germany in 1939.

Mrs Green, whose grandson Ben is in the Fourth Year, spoke to a packed Main Hall about her memories of living in Germany as Hitler began his systematic persecution of German Jews. She recalled a narrow escape from capture during Kristallnacht, how her father was beaten and paraded through the streets, and the subsequent decision of her family to send her away on the Kindertransport. Warmly applauded by Hamptonians, Mrs Green was thanked by The Headmaster for her personal storey.

Match Report:

“Last Saturday, The U14D football team travelled to Abingdon. The D team started by keeping possession and having many shots on goal. Early on in the game, Milo H hit the post twice. Soon after, the D’s broke the deadlock. A low cross from Jamie Lund, saw Joel A score to make it 1-0. Just before half-time, Abingdon equalised. In the second-half, Abingdon managed to score 5 more goals, to make it 6-1, on the counter attack, resulting in the D’s taking just their second loss of the season. The D’s did their best and are enthusiastic and ready for the upcoming games.”
