Hampton Small Boats Head

Nearly 650 junior rowing crews from 44 clubs and schools raced at the Hampton Small Boats Head. The race attracts crews from across the country, racing over the 3000m course from Sunbury Lock to Hurst Park. Both the river conditions and the weather were excellent which led to many exciting performances from the young athletes.

The fastest time of the day came from a Molesey Boat Club J18 Double, while the club also picked up victory in the Junior Women’s Single.

Hampton’s 89 crews also performed well, with victory for Matthew Hamilton and Tom Cross in the Junior Men’s Pairs, along with a third place in the Junior Men’s Singles for Tom Cross. Lower down the School, Hampton finished an admirable third place in the J15 Coxed Quad category. Overall 19 Hampton crews finished in the top ten in their category.

Speaking on the day, Captain of Boats Matt Turner said the Hampton results bode well for the season ahead:

The head saw strong results throughout the boat club, from a win in J18 Men’s Pairs to a bronze in J15 Coxed Fours, and has provided a solid base to build on, for what looks to be a promising season.
