First Year Blog
I am sure you will all join me in congratulating the entire First Year for their performance in the Christmas Concert last night. For those of you who were unable to attend, the First Year Choir sang a a wonderfully harmonised version of “The Holly and the Ivy”, followed by the toe-tapping “Be our Guest” from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast – complete with a live band of older boys. The thunderous applause they received at the end of their performance was richly deserved. Well done also to all the boys who took part in the various other bands, groups, orchestras and ensembles. It was a fantastic concert, and a great way to establish a Christmas mood. Thank you to Mr Donald, Miss Esser, Mrs Oldfield and Mr Roland for all the work they have done helping the boys to prepare for the event, and for the accompaniment and conducting that they did last night.
Aficionados of the geographically trivial from across southwest London flocked to Hampton on Monday night for Geographical Association World Wise Quiz. If you know your Dhaka from your Dakar, or can name the only two double-landlocked countries (answers on a postcard), then the Main Hall was the place to be. After some fiendishly difficult rounds, featuring map-work, capital cities and well-known (and less well-known) landmarks, Hampton’s team of Third Year boys came away as winners, but there were some sterling performances from the Hampton First Years boys. Well done to Joe W, Josh T, George B, Danil E, Tomas E and Seb P for taking part, and I hope they come back inspired to compete again next year!
On a final note, congratulations to Charles B who is Tutee of the Week, Mrs Peattie has been impressed with his enthusiastic attitude towards all aspects of school life. Well done Charles!
Only one more week to go, and I’m sure the boys will be starting to feel the effects of a very long term. I wish them a restful weekend, and I’m sure they will be raring to go again for one final week before the well-deserved Christmas break.
