Summer Rowing Update

It was a summer of success for the boat club, with many Hamptonians involved in national and international rowing races.

Last year’s Vice-Captain of Boats, Tom Worthington, was chosen to row for the British Junior Rowing Team and achieved a Bronze medal with the men’s Eight at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Lithuania.

Lower down the School, Oli Woodall, Oli Bridge, Ben Andrews and Bill Downey, helped the GB crew secure victory against France in the GB V France U16 Match held at the London Docklands.

The 1st VIII continued rowing throughout the summer break and competed at the British Junior Championships racing in an Eight and in a Coxless Four. Oli Woodall, fresh from his U16 Great Britain victory stepped in to replace Tom Worthington who was busy training for the Junior World Rowing Championships. The Hampton crews won both the Eight and the Coxless Four titles. A Four of Tom Davies, Tom Cross, Matthew Hamilton and Oli Woodall were then nominated to row for England in the Coxless Four at the Home Countries International Regatta, where they won gold, ahead of Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
