Sixth Form Study & Careers Centre

School News

Hampton’s new Sixth Form Study and Careers Centre is nearing completion. The three-storey development, within the existing Hammond Quad area of the School, represents one of the most significant engineering challenges undertaken on our site.  Some parts of the new-build are already in use and there will be a full hand over in the coming weeks.

This wonderful new addition will significantly enhance the School’s existing teaching facilities and also provide a bespoke study area for our Sixth Formers. It will offer Hamptonians flexible work spaces, along with private study areas and individual workstations. Moreover, the incorporation of the UCAS and Careers Department within the new building will provide senior boys with the resources, expertise and access to our influential alumni network needed to help them on their individual path beyond Hampton.

Sixth Formers have been shown around the new facility and have offered advice over their recommended finishing touches. The ‘living wall’ has been a particular source of comment and approval.

Phase two of our development project has also commenced linking the Alexander Building and the north-facing side of the existing main School building.  It remains scheduled for completion by September 2019 and will provide us with several additional classrooms and laboratories.

A structural glass roof will cover the quad area and an internal atrium space will be linked to existing corridors and teaching areas by glazed bridges and a cantilevered staircase. The design has been carefully considered to create an appropriate modern addition to the existing School. Efficient new heating, lighting, ventilation and acoustic systems will ensure that a comfortable and quiet internal environment is maintained in both the new and surrounding spaces affected by the development. A combination of heat recovery systems and additional photovoltaic panels on the Main Hall roof will help to minimise energy consumption.
