A number of Hampton rowers have been in action at Henley Royal Regatta and at Nottingham for the Great Britain vs France rowing trials.
Hampton entered two senior crews into Henley Royal Regatta, with the 1st VIII entered into the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup and the 2nd VIII hoping to qualify for the Temple Challenge Cup, an event for university crews.
Up against a number of strong crews, including Oxford Brookes University and Eton College, Hampton’s 2nd VIII unfortunately missed out on qualification.
In the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup, the 1st VIII were drawn against Monmouth School on the first day of the regatta and won their race comfortably.
Hampton’s next opponents were Australian crew, Scotch College, the eventual winners of the competition. Despite a valiant and determined effort, Hampton’s majority Lower Sixth crew, were beaten by the Melbourne outfit.
Lower down the School, four J16 rowers, Oli Woodall, Oli Bridge, Ben Andrews and Bill Downey qualified to represent Great Britain in the annual fixture against France.
The four, who previously won bronze at National Schools Regatta, came second in their time trial and they will now compete against France at the London Regatta Centre later this month.
