Schools Head & The Scullery
This year’s Schools Head of the River Race was more competitive than ever, with the race taking place over 1700m, instead of the usual 7000m, due to adverse weather conditions. Hampton fielded eight crews across the age groups, with many of the crews placing well. The School’s 1st VIII overtook St Edward’s School within the first part of the race and went on to finish 6th. The highest placed crew were the J16 1st VIII, who finished second in their category, just behind St Paul’s School. Lower down the School, the J15 3rd and 4th eights both rowed strong races, crossing the line in 10th and 16th, despite having to compete in the 2nd VIII category.
For our J14s, their first national race was at The Scullery, a 3600m time trial at Eton Dorney Lake. Hampton had more boys and crews entered than ever before with five Octuples and a Quad. All five of the Octuples raced well, and amazingly they all won gold medals, winning every category from J14A to E Octuples. The Quad also placed highly, finishing 21st against a number of strong opposition crews.
