In rowing news, Ewan McBride (3F) would like to announce that he has had a new haircut, and claims that his ‘fresh trim’ will make the difference in the upcoming regattas for the rowers. Something about aerodynamics perhaps? 3F’s rowers are still analysing their performance in the Bedford regatta.  Joe Trevor and Ewan McBride are pleased with their performance in reaching the semi-finals.  They class this as a good achievement (but apparently not quite good enough for the competitive Mr Saul!), and Ewan McBride did well under the ‘inspirational’ coxing of Henry O’Sullivan.  The 3H rowers are looking forward to the NAT schools competition next week.

On the cricket pitches Hampton has seen some excellent performances.  The U14A team did well yesterday.  3H’s Miles Patience and Louis Goodwin report that they bowled out The Heathland School for 20 runs and won the match.

U14C Cricket coach Mr Alvarez is very proud of the team’s performances and efforts in training so far this season.  They have achieved three victories on the trot, winning their latest fixture with a convincing win over St Johns, Leatherhead. The boys batted first and comfortably notched up 145 runs for 5 wickets after 20 overs.  Olly Maskell (3B) scored 13 runs.  In reply, our boys played extremely well, bowling out the opposition for 15 runs in 8 overs…….yes that’s it 15 runs.

An impressive victory indeed,;however, Mr Alvarez is more proud of the boys’ conduct in the match.  The whole team were extremely respectful, and played like true professional sportsmen. This was noted by the opposition coach who saw how dignified our boys were after St John’s disappointing day at the office.

Well done to the following boys:

1.    Nick Richards (Capt)
2.    Alex Raeburn (W/Keeper)
3.    Himanish Joshi/Toby Booker
4.    Ethan Scott
5.    Rory Carr (Co-Capt)
6.    Oliver Maskell
7.    Luke Jefferies
8.    Magnus Bell (Captain for the last two games)
9.    Govind Bhachu
10.    David Evans
11.    Paul Wilkinson
12.    Oscar Boardman

As the football season draws to a close, Gurmehar Sumra (3H) made the journey up to Manchester to watch Manchester Utd play Bournemouth at the infamous match that never was!  The stadium was evacuated due to a false bomb so he didn’t get to watch the football

Joseph Helm has been on the promotion trail.  The Helm family travelled faithfully all the way up to the industrial town of Middlesbrough, in North Yorkshire, to support their dad’s team in their all-important last match of the season. After nearly 5 hours of travelling in a train full of Brighton fans (the opposition, and therefore enemy for the day), Joseph was certainly not looking forward to the journey home should Brighton win! Thankfully, all went to plan and Boro were promoted, and Joseph seemed to forget that he is, in fact, a Liverpool fan, as he and his brother Patrick joined in a post-match pitch invasion to celebrate. It was certainly a day to remember.

Well done to Adam Wood (3E), who was team leader for a group of five Scouts who won the trophy at the Surrey Scout Expedition Challenge competition, beating 14 other teams from around the county.  The Scout expedition challenge is equivalent to a bronze DofE expedition and the teams are scored throughout the weekend for things such as the accuracy of their route planning and navigation, the suitability of their menu, tent pitching, tidiness of their camp site, team work and overall attitude.

Matthieu Hildreth has done his French GCSE; we hope he has done well!

Many thanks to Joseph Helm, Joe Trevor, Tom Hayward and Alex Saul (all in 3F) who were exceedingly helpful at First Year Parents’ Evening.  Their friendly faces and demeanour and their impeccable manners made a potentially stressful evening for parents much more pleasurable.

And in other news, the 3B clash royal clan is 30th in Congo (whatever that means….).

Finally, well done to all the participants in the ROAR challenge who are making their way into London this afternoon to support or compete! Best wishes to Faisal Jumaily, Tomas Dwyer, Tom Randall (all 3B) and William Howting (3D), who will be representing Hampton.
