Following a successful Year Group Council meeting chaired by Mr Sims last week Sam Cummings (2J) and Lucas Carbajal (2B) represented the Second Year at this week’s whole School Council meeting on Thursday where they took forward the proposal for double PE lessons for all year groups.
On Monday 28th of November, the Hampton U13 Table Tennis team hosted Coombe Boys’ School. The team consisted of Ethan Clapham (2L), Rohan Raj (2H), Sam Colvine (2L) and myself, Olly Coles (2J). Together, we fought a very tightly contested match with Rohan and I winning our singles games but losing our double, and Sam and Ethan who lost their singles but won their doubles. The match ended at 5-5 which was a fair reflection of the match itself. However, we are still early in the season and I am sure we can expect many triumphs to come… Olly Coles – 2J
The Second Years will continue their inter-form competition next week with badminton and table tennis matches scheduled to take place at lunchtime on Tuesday. Players – make sure you arrive on time and get changed promptly! Spectators are welcome to cheer on their form’s teams from the balcony.
We started the tournament off strong with a 40-0 win over Cardinal Wiseman, with Ethan Knight (2J) and Jack Pearce (2J) carrying the ball over often. We were then confronted with a very tough group game against the London Oratory which we sadly lost 15-10 despite our best efforts. Luckily our spirits weren’t dampened and we won our next game 20-5 against Enfield Grammar School. We ended up in the plate competition, it looked like some other schools had also been unlucky as we found that Halliford, the winners from last year, were also in the plate as well as Latymer, who were semi-finalists in the cup the previous year. We started off strongly beating the hosts St James 35-5, this put up our hopes. Next we had a tough game against Latymer which we had struggled greatly with last year only just scraping a win. This year we took control of the game and won 10-5. Our final game was to win the plate; it was against our strongest rivals, Halliford. In all the three previous games we had never won against this team. We both started very defensively with neither of us scoring. Towards the end of the second half some magic occurred for us when our star centre Ethan Knight grubbered it through their line and a strong chase from Ben Freer (2W) catching it on the five meter put us ahead and led to our first win against Halliford. Special mentions must also go to Jack Pearce for super defence and Sam Davidson (2J) for outstanding rucking. Well played, boys! Tomasz Findlater – 2W
On Wednesday afternoon, Mr Bolton took some boys over to LEH School to compete in the Richmond Schools Swimming Championships. It was a successful day, with the Hampton Second Year Boys B team coming third and the As coming first. Christopher Hardy (2L) won the front crawl for the As, Tom Ketel (2P) came third in the individual medley, Sam Davidson (2J) came second in the butterfly, and Sam Colvine (2L) also won the breaststroke, giving us a comfortable and successful lead with a win against schools such as: Grey Court, Richard Reynolds and Turing House. The team of including Raff Lucking, Christopher Hardy, Tom Ketel, and Sam Davidson also won the freestyle medley. Well done, Hampton – a great day was had by all! Sam Davidson -2J
Congratulations to Ben Francis (2L) who has completed the ABRSM Jazz piano syllabus by passing his Grade 5 Jazz piano exam.
