Hampton’s 1st XV carried on the tradition of success at St Joseph’s National Rugby Festival, this year claiming the title of Plate winners.

The young team found their feet after the opening couple of matches and put on a display of excellence throughout the second day with wins again RGS Newcastle, Eltham College and Gordon’s School. At the end of the second group stage, Hampton were top of their group, having conceded only one try.

In the Plate final, Hampton faced the hosts, St Joseph’s College and won convincingly, without giving away a single try or penalty. The game finished 13-0 to Hampton. Director of Rugby, Sean Thomson, was proud of the team’s performances:

We have a lot of younger boys in this team and to come away from the weekend having won the Plate is very impressive. Their resilience and ability to dig deep will set them up very well for the next season.
