Well done to Rohith Ratnam and Arjun Samra (3E) who alongside two Second Years made up the team which won the Richmond Schools’ Championships yesterday. Winning two matches comfortably, they had to dig deep in the third, going through to the next round on the back of a 3-2 win.

U14A Football report:

On a cold Saturday morning Hampton U14 A team played Dr Challoner’s High School. The game began with some end to end play but then Hampton took the lead through a cross from Alasdair Bolling (3J) which the opposition’s defender diverted accidentally into his own net. Hampton extended their lead with Alasdair Bolling (3J) placing the ball calmly into the net from a pinpoint pass provided by Declan Connolly (3C/ Captain). After several chances for the front three which were provided from Declan Connolly’s (3C) through balls Hampton finally scored when Thomas Banks (3H) passed to Declan Connolly (3C) and Declan forced a save out of the Dr Challoner’s keeper which Alasdair Bolling (3J) followed up, placing the ball into the empty net. The fourth goal was quick to follow, Robbie Cox (3D) was having a great game along with Nathan Chapplow (3A) in defence and Robbie Cox (3D) managed to get on the ball after a cross from Milo Choundry (3B) which Robbie buried in the bottom corner. After half time the game was much closer and it took Hampton time to settle and force another goal but it came as Thomas Banks won a penalty and Declan Connolly was clinical from the penalty spot. After this the next goal came almost straight away where a shot from Alasdair Bolling (3J) was saved but Theo Radicopoulos (3C) took advantage of the keeper spilling the ball and placed it into the empty net. Overall it was a comfortable 6-1 win for Hampton and yet another great team performance.

 Joseph Dormer – Heroes Return

For the past three years I have participated in the London Youth Games – My sport is sailing and I was part of the Richmond Regatta team, winning the silver medal in my individual races and coming third overall. Team Richmond were asked if they would provide some of their team to participate in the Heroes Return – the celebration of the Rio 2016 athletes in Trafalgar Square and I was lucky enough to be asked. We met at Twickenham station and went into London by train together, all really excited to be getting up close and personal with our sporting heroes.

On arrival at Trafalgar Square we met the Paralympic basketball team and talked about what it takes to play professional sport with a disability and the difference it makes to how disabled people are perceived. I thought that they were really inspirational.

We then were taken to the front of the stage where we were introduced to the audience, followed by the Grenadier Guards marching onto the stage and music pumping out ‘Gold’ by Spandau Ballet followed by Rule Britannia and other celebratory songs announcing the arrival of the Olympians. The whole event was spectacular and I felt really privileged to have been a part of it.
